Arizona assesses rain effects on fish hatcheries, Tonto Creek facility severely damaged

Heavy rainfall has caused significant damage to one Arizona fish hatchery and forced the closure of others, officials said Monday.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department staff is assessing state fish hatcheries and stated in a release that the worst damage happened at the Tonto Creek Hatchery northeast of Payson, according to an AGFD release.

Rushing waters slammed into the feed room and bunkhouse at the Tonto Creek property, and floods washed out roads surrounding the hatchery.
