Arcadia’s Hannay will remember connections made through volleyball

Posted

Name: Melissa Hannay

School, spring sport and position/event: Arcadia High School Beach Volleyball

Awards or recognitions you’ve received while playing in high school: Beach Volleyball Captain

How long have you been playing your sport? I’ve been playing indoor volleyball since fifth grade and started playing sand volleyball my junior year.

Why did you choose to play your sport? I played volleyball for the first time in fifth grade and connected with it instantly. I’ve always had so much fun and made some incredible connections with my teammates.

What is your favorite personal sports memory from your playing career? My favorite volleyball memory was my team bonding junior year. I had so much fun with my team and I got to know each one of them better.

Who has impacted you the most along your sports journey? Why? Although many people have impacted me, my weightlifting coach has helped me the most. He helped me physically, but most importantly he helped me with my mindset. I learned how to stay positive and work hard. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without his help.

What are you going to miss most about high school sports? Some of my best memories from high school were varsity games and practices because I got to spend time with some of my favorite people. I’m especially going to miss the fun times we had warming up for home games and team bonding.

What comes next for you after high school? Next year I’m going to Grand Canyon to study psychology. I will continue to play volleyball with my friends as much as I can.

What advice would you give to the underclassmen? My advice is to just have fun and enjoy the time you have in high school, especially in your sport. It goes by so fast and you’ll miss it more than you realize now.
