Several hundred people from the Apache Junction community gathered Friday to mark the 25-year anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the U.S. when nearly 3,000 people were killed.
The hour-long observance brought together city leaders, first responders and community organizations, with 25 participating groups each presenting a wreath to represent one year since the attacks.
“It’s hard to believe it’s been 25 years since Sept. 11, 2001,” Mayor Chip Wilson said in his remarks. “One of our nation’s darkest days we saw extraordinary acts of bravery. Today, 25 years later, we gather to remember those acts and people behind them. We also remember how everyone came together not only to support our nation but to help everyone.”
