Another West Valley city approves rules for e-bikes after safety concerns

The Litchfield Park City Council unanimously approved strict new regulations governing e-bikes, e-scooters and golf carts, moving past months of study to finalize an ordinance aimed at curbing what officials contend is reckless riding behavior across the city.

The passage implements a set of safety requirements, age limits and escalating civil fines. The push for stricter regulations came after city officials documented hazardous incidents involving riders performing wheelies, standing on seats and intentionally blocking traffic.

City leaders noted that previous rules contained legal gray areas, prompting the effort to clarify vehicle classifications, protect pedestrians and align local regulations with regional standards.
