The third Annual Epic Canned Food Drive hosted by Legacy Traditional School-Queen Creek donated 9,590 pounds of food to the Superstition Community Food Bank.

The food drive is an annual collaboration between the school and food bank hosted by the student council and directed by student Sam Lee, according to a release.

This year’s food drive was in memory of former Legacy Traditional School-Queen Creek principal and assistant superintendent Patrick Grady.

More than 12,000 individual non-perishable foods — equating to 9,590 pounds — filled seven watermelon bins and more than 50 milk crates. On Nov. 17 a volunteer crew of 30 new and seasoned volunteers organized an astonishing 7,790 pounds in two hours, the release states.

The staff at the Superstition Community Food Bank extends sincerest thanks to Fry’s at Combs and Gantzel, all volunteers, the United Food Bank, and the Legacy Traditional School-Queen Creek staff and administration for assisting the growth and success of the Annual Epic Canned Food Drive. LTS-QC and the SCFB are excited to continue their partnership with a common goal to help the needy, the release states.
