SUN CITY - Anna M. Backhaus passed away in the early hours of Dec. 26, 2012 at the Inn at the Amethyst. She was born on Aug. 22, 1912 in Reeseville Wis., the daughter of William and Josephine Klug. She was raised and attended school in Wis. where she met and married Alpheus Backhaus May 1, 1935. She and her husband were the parents of four children and ultimately moved to Phoenix in 1954 where she attended Beauty School and eventually owned and operated three beauty salons in the West Valley/Sun City Area. She actively worked in her salon until the age of 89. Anna was preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers and sisters and her husband of 53 years. She is survived by four children, Beverly Purcell (Joseph) Chacon of Basalt, Colo.; Allen Backhaus of San Diego, Calif.; Gerry (Donna) Backhaus of Gilbert and Judy Warinner of Avondale. Ann is also survived by nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Monday Dec. 31, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Brophy Chapel, 4701 North Central Avenue, burial followed in Resthaven Park Cemetery in Glendale.
