After 25 years of researching and collecting American Civil War art and artifacts, Paradise Valley resident Dain Calvin recently self-published a 75-page book called “Folk Art of the Civil War.”
A book signing will be held 12-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Scottsdale Marketplace on the southwest corner of Lincoln Drive and Scottsdale Road. At the book signing, there will also be a display of Civil War objects that appear in the book.
Calvin began his project when he inherited artifacts from family that fought on both sides of the American Civil War. Because of his family members’ involvement, he started collecting and going to antique shows and battle reunions that sell Civil War artifacts.
