Posted
SUN CITY - Alice Marie (Keisler) Strayer, 94, was born on January 19, 1922 to Joseph and Almeda Keisler in Prairie View, Illinois. She passed into eternity on March 22, 2016. Alice grew up on a farm in the Long Grove area with her four sisters and two brothers. After High School Alice became a hairdresser and continued throughout her years to "trim" up her kid's hair! Alice met Donald Strayer shortly thereafter, Don was in the Army and Alice raised their six children in many places throughout the USA, Germany and Japan. They settled in Madison Wisconsin after Don's retirement from the Army. Eventually they both retired and moved to Medford, Wisconsin. After Don's death in 1977, Alice continued to live in Medford where she met Charlie Spreen. They had 25 wonderful years together building a home on Lake Holcombe and a second home in Sun City, Ariz. along with golfing, fishing, playing cards, traveling and just plain having fun. When Charlie passed in 2005 Alice surrounded herself with her family and friends and continued to enjoy life most recently at Vista Del Rio, Peoria, Ariz. She was independent, sometimes feisty but always a caring beautiful Mom. A special thanks from her kids goes to our sister Ginger who took care of Mom in her later years being with her almost every day and caring for her needs. Alice is survived by her five children, Sherrie (Bob) Lincks, Sandy Armstrong, Susan (Russ) Anderson, Donald (Patt) Strayer, Jr., Ginger (Bob) Gorsuch; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn (Bob) Littfin and Marion Knigge; and many nieces, nephews and cousins and a wide circle of friends. She was pre-deceased by Donald Strayer, Sr., Charlie Spreen; daughter, Debbie Gorsuch; and grandsons, Steve Miller and Joe Gorsuch; her parents, three sisters and two brothers. Services will be held at Lakeview Methodist Church, 10298 W. Thunderbird Road, Sun City, Ariz. on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at a later date in Madison Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to the following two organizations that support veterans and their families: Fisher House at www.fisherhouse.org or Home for our Troops at www.hfotusa.org or to Lakeview Methodist Church, Sun City Ariz., www.lakeviewumc.net "Mom, our lives are before us, our past is behind us, but our memories are forever, we love you!"
