Alice Grant Harris Sheffield, 97Sun City resident Alice Grant Harris Sheffield dies Oct. 19, 2007.Ms. Sheffield was born Oct. 16, 1910, on a farm near Lovell, Wyo., to Mary Jane and Joseph Crumb Grant. The family moved to Salt Lake City when she was 13. There, she graduated from LDS Business High School.She married Paul Rollins Harris in October 1930 and had two daughters. They moved to Logan, Utah, where he attended Utah State Agricultural College while she worked as a secretary at the university and took classes. After he graduated in 1939 they moved to Oregon until the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor; they then moved to Seattle.After the war, the moved to Great Falls, Mont. It was here that Ms. Sheffield started playing golf , which would be her outlet and great joy until she quit at 85. She recorded two holes-in-one and played excellent golf into her last few years when she suffered a golf cart accident, which diminished her skills. She and her husband spent 11 years in the Chicago area and two years in Covina, Calif., until he died in 1967. She moved to Sun City at that time and enjoyed the many activities -- particularly golf -- of the retirement community.She married Fred Sheffield in 1970 and had 16 years of happiness with him until his death in 1986. She lived at Amethyst Retirement Center and La Loma Care center.Ms. Sheffield was an excellent homemaker and a wonderful mother. In addition, she made many beautiful quilts and needlepoint pictures, which she gifted to her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.She is survived by two daughters, Alice Jean Simons (Marr) and Audrey H. Shumway (Ted, deceased); six grandchildren, Rancy Simons (terry), Loral Ann Beecher (Lynn), Clayton Simons, Rebecca Rasmusson (Russell), Paul Shumway (Suzy) and Emilie Alice Peterson (Matthew); 22 great-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
