Alfred Gaines credits Tempe police officers with giving him second and third chances with lifesaving treatment.

More than 300 lives have been saved, according to the Tempe Police Department, by officers who administered Narcan, a medication that can reverse an opioid overdose.

Alfred Gaines is one of them, and it happened more than once.

“Thank God for the officers that do respond in time ... and saved my life. Gave me second and third chances," said Gaines, who is in recovery and focuses on helping others whose struggles he said he knows well.
