Alfred’s story: East Valley police officers help change a life

The Tempe Police Department has documented more than 300 lives that have been saved by officers who administered Narcan, a medication that can reverse an opioid overdose.

Alfred Gaines is one of them, and it happened more than once.

“Thank God for the officers that do respond in time ... and saved my life. Gave me second and third chances," said Gaines, who is in recovery and said he focuses on helping others whose struggles he can identify with.
