Aldi mum on potential Glendale expansion status

Almost five years after discussions between International grocer Aldi and Glendale started, there’s still no timetable on a potential expansion to the West Valley city.

Submissions for illuminated Aldi logo wall signs on a potential new store at the southwest corner of 59th Avenue and Bell Road were approved by the city’s planning department in 2017. As recently as August 2021, plans still appear to be moving forward on the proposed 19,209-square-foot store on 3.77 acres.

This past summer, the city’s project team granted approval to Aldi’s design review pending construction documents, and later that month a six-page site plan covering every aspect of the proposed building and property right down to the exterior finish was submitted by Aldi and approved by the planning department, according to city records.
