The Oct. 22 Apache Junction High School home varsity football game against Arcadia High School has been canceled due to a threat posted on social media, Apache Junction Unified School District said.
“Due to an alleged threat on social media, tonight’s varsity football game between Apache Junction and Arcadia has been canceled in the interest of safety,” AJUSD said in a statement.

Scottsdale Unified issued its own statement, Scott Bordow, AJUSD director of communications and community engagement, said in an email.
The AJHS Prospectors football game against Arcadia will not be rescheduled, AJUSD said on Twitter @AJUSD43.
Tickets for tonight’s game will be good for AJHS football’s next home game. Those wanting refunds should contact the high school, the district posted on Twitter @AJUSD43.
Oct. 22 was to be senior night for the Prospectors, where families and fans were to arrive early for ceremonies to honor the Prospector football senior class of 2022 at 6 p.m., according to a Twitter post @ProspectorFB.
The Prospectors are 4-2 and the Titans 4-3. The game was to start at 7 p.m. at AJHS, 2525 S. Ironwood Drive.
