Ahwatukee fire station gets $850k funding for upgrades, focused on improved firefighter sleep

An Ahwatukee fire station is receiving $850,000 in upgrades, with a focus on dormitory upgrades and bringing the station into full ADA compliance.

Rep. Greg Stanton, former mayor of Phoenix, helped secure the federal funding for the modernization upgrades to Phoenix Fire Station 46, northeast of Desert Foothills Parkway and Chandler Boulevard. Mayor Kate Gallego said the renovations would not have been possible without him.

Stanton said Phoenix Fire officials came to him to explain the need.
