After sloppy start, Mercury dominate in second half to beat Mystics 77-64

It was a tale of two halves.

After a sloppy first half where the team trailed by as much as 12, the Mercury dominated in the second half, limiting the Washington Mystics to 20 second-half points en route to a comfortable 77-64 win Thursday at the Footprint Center in Phoenix.

Mercury center Brittney Griner dropped 30 points for the third time this season, completely outmatching Washington’s MVP-candidate center Tina Charles. Griner, also in the MVP conversation, more often than not had no trouble taking on Charles in the paint. On the other end, Charles led the Mystics with 17 points but had a bad shooting night, making just 5 of 16 shots from the field.
