Donation fraud scams are prevalent, especially with the onset of the pandemic, and during the holiday months it is easy to fall victim.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s website, sometimes fraudsters pretend to be affiliated with the government, when they are not. It also said scams come in many forms, including emails, social media posts, crowd-funding platforms and cold calls.
This was the case for one Sun City West resident. Arizona Fire & Medical Authority Deputy Chief Eric Kriwer said AFMA staff received information from a concerned individual saying a phone call came in soliciting donations for the North County Fire & Medical District.
