Affordable housing project for senior, low-incoming Goodyear families announced

Two new affordable housing communities will arrive in Goodyear after developers struck a deal to develop senior and low-income housing.

The 28-acre site at 16985 W. Van Buren St. in Goodyear will house 657 affordable units for families and seniors. Once complete, Estrella Springs and Suncrest Vista at Canyon Trails will provide 396 low-income family and 261 age-restricted units. According to the developer, the move marks the most extensive affordable multifamily new construction development within Arizona.

In collaboration with local stakeholders, the development will feature low-water landscaping, artistic features designed by local students, and a flex space within the community clubhouse accessible by the local elementary school.

Once complete, Estrella Springs and Suncrest Vista at Canyon Trails will provide 396 low-income family and 261 age-restricted units. According to the developer, the move marks the most extensive affordable multifamily new construction development within Arizona.

Construction of Estrella Springs and Suncrest Vista at Canyon Trail will be supported by the Section 42 Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program and private bonds.

Nationally, the LIHTC program is considered the largest source of support for constructing and maintaining affordable housing communities.

Affordable housing developers and operators agree to maintain rents controlled by the area median income through the program.

The developer, Dominium, and its partners are investing more than $1 billion in the state into affordable housing for families and Arizona’s seniors. Recently Dominium opened Solstice of Mesa, allotting 237 affordable homes for seniors.

Dominium currently has more than 1,500 affordable homes under construction across the Valley, including the new community in Goodyear. Dominium has an additional 1,500 units planned for development in the next few years.

Dominium collaborates with the Arizona Department of Housing, the Arizona Industrial Development Authority, and the Arizona Housing Coalition to increase the number of affordable housing units in the state.

WD Construction will construct the project.
