Adult Protective Services cases show an increase

More than 30,000 reports a year

Securing a vulnerable adult’s safety can be a challenge with family living in another state, fear of reporting or some are simply not believed.

Adult Protective Services, which investigates reports of abuse in Arizona, has seen an increase in the number of cases opened over the past year, and its officials are working to alert seniors to the potential pitfalls of abuse as well as making sure their loved ones know the signs to look for.

As of the end of last month, Adult Protective Services has 218 investigators working across Arizona. Looking back to the state fiscal year 2022, this department received approximately 34,700 reports of potential abuse or neglect of vulnerable adults, according to Brett Bezio, deputy press secretary for the Department of Economic Security where Adult Protective Services is house.
