Scottsdale Unified School District’s governing board has approved revisions to its policy regarding ceremonies and observances in the classroom because of recent state changes that require a moment of silence at the start of each day.
Explained in a district report, the policy outlines students of all grades be provided with an opportunity each day to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance or other patriotic observance.
Additionally, fourth- through sixth-grade students are required to recite a passage from the Declaration of Independence each morning, unless objected by a parent.
