TEMPE - American Leadership Academy-Gilbert North settled in for its first state baseball title game with a leadoff walk and a single.
The runners advanced to second and third with one out, and senior Spencer Nielson plated sophomore Boston Morris with a ground ball out. Little did the Eagles realize the third out of the inning ended their best chance of the night against senior pitcher Dale Fry.
Northwest Christian's ace was in command from then on, throwing a complete game two-hitter in the Crusaders' 2-1 victory in the 3A state final May 16 at Tempe Diablo Stadium.
