Abrazo Community Health Network is presenting free heart health screenings throughout the Valley in February, National Heart Month.

Heart disease remains the No. 1 killer of both men and women in the United States. More than 600,000 Americans die of heart disease each year. About 85.6 million Americans are living with some form of cardiovascular disease or the after-effects of stroke, according to the American Heart Association.

“Health education and disease prevention should be top priorities for patients and their caregivers. At Abrazo Community Health Network hospitals, we are deeply committed to helping patients and their loved ones understand the risks associated with heart disease so they can seize control of their health,’’ said Timothy Byrne, Market Medical Director for Cardiology for Abrazo Community Health Network

The Embrace Your Heart health screenings will include blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose screenings along with body mass index (BMI) checks.

For glucose, please fast for six to eight hours prior to this test for accurate results. Healthcare professionals will be on hand to answer questions.

Stroke, heart disease, diabetes and other educational materials will be provided. Register at Abrazohealth.com/HeartHealth or call 844-563-6109.

The screenings will be from 8-11 a.m. unless otherwise noted:

Feb. 18: Safeway, 20205 N. 67th Ave., Glendale.

Feb. 22: Safeway, 14175 W. Indian School Road, Goodyear.

March 8: Eagles Nest Clubhouse At Pebble Creek, 3645 Clubhouse Drive (parking lot)

In addition to screenings, Abrazo hospitals also are presenting free heart-health educational seminars throughout the year. From 6:30-8 p.m. Feb. 23, atrial fibrillation will be discussed during a free seminar at the Arizona Heart Foundation building, 1910 E. Thomas Road. Register at Abrazohealth.com/heartseminar or call 855-292-9355.

Online heart health videos and online heart risk assessments are also available at AbrazoHealth.com.
