There are many goat breeds in the U.S.; most imported from other countries. They’re raised for meat, milk and cheese, and for their fur. This isn’t about domestic farm animals but the acronym GOAT — Greatest Of All Time.
It’s often used to describe exceptional athletes but can be applied to other fields. Most agree Tom Brady is the reigning football quarterback GOAT, Babe Ruth for decades held the title for baseball and Wilt Chamberlin for basketball.
Possible applications of the acronym in American politics belong to Joe Biden and Donald Trump, in my opinion. Biden is Trump’s scapeGOAT, although I disagree with the inference. Per Trump, everything wrong in America is Biden’s fault, although published economic and employment data suggest he’s wrong.
A New York Times report, March 2025, summarized the economy turned over to Trump in one paragraph: “President Trump inherited an economy that was, by most conventional measures, firing on all cylinders. Wages, consumer spending and corporate profits were rising, unemployment was low. The inflation rate, though higher than normal, was falling.”
The Wall Street Journal called Biden’s economy remarkable. I don’t think Biden deserves the scapeGOAT label; however, it’s known that Trump makes himself look better if he tears down his opponents.
I believe the next political application of the acronym is worthy of an international title. The U.N. should consider a Bully GOAT award for Trump. In just 10 months as president, his actions include an inhumane immigration crackdown, military troops in American cities, irrational tariffs, out-of-control inflation, unilateral canceling of international contracts and killing of presumed drug traffickers at sea.
America has become more divisive; Trump has described Democrats as evil and said he hates them. He’s running roughshod on allies in Europe and the Americas. I think he deserves the Bully GOAT title
