On Wednesday, the mayor and his handpicked team of community leaders met for the last time to conclude on a strategic plan to change the way Tempe Police Department conducts its business.
Tempe’s Public Safety Advisory Task Force, established in October of last year, has been working diligently throughout its last seven meetings to discuss issues regarding how police interact with people of color, people with mental health challenges, and those experiencing homelessness in the community and what can be done to improve upon the city’s relationships with these groups.
After a summer of protests related to police brutality, Mayor Corey D. Woods announced the task force’s formation in August of 2020.
