“A Silver Retrospective” is the solo exhibition of Peter Brian Klein whose artwork is primarily black and white with his subject matter varying as his perspective changes from natural to architectural and even avant-grade imagery.
Royse Contemporary will present “A Silver Retrospective,” the solo exhibition of Peter Brian Klein whose artwork explores various subject matter.
Klein’s collection of silver gelatin prints he created during his career illustrates the technical process required to achieve consistent results, according to a press release.
His artwork is primarily black and white with his subject matter varying as his perspective changes from natural to architectural and even avant-grade imagery.
“The allure of (black) and (white) photography is nostalgic, timeless, how it allows me to set the mood and emphasize emotion,” stated Klein in the release.
He aims to create images that are described as “visually striking and emotionally evocative,” while capturing light on a landscape, contrast of shadows, highlights in a portrait, or abstract patterns of light and dark in an experimental print, the release said.
In addition to working with light-sensitive paper, manipulating exposures and chemical treatments, creating a physical print for the technical considerations, Klein is drawn to the emotional resonance of silver gelatin prints.
“Looking back on my journey as a silver gelatin printmaker, I am grateful for the insights and lessons that this process has imparted,” Klein said in the release.
“A Silver Retrospective” exhibition will open from 6 to 9 p.m. to the public on Thursday, Oct. 5, with an opening reception to meet the artist, along with refreshments and treats. The exhibit will be on display at Royse Contemporary, Oct. 5-Nov. 12.
