Peoria family celebrates implementation of Brandon Act

When Under Secretary for Personnel and Readiness Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. put the pen to the page and completed his signature for a new military policy in May, Peoria residents Patrick and Teri Caserta breathed a sigh of relief.

It had been a long time coming for them.

His autograph signified the implementation of the Brandon Act, signed into law by President Joe Biden Dec. 27,2021, designed to improve the process for service members seeking mental health support.
