District staff shares COVID-19 mitigation strategy for impending school year, face masks to be optional

After a year-and-a half of shuffling between in-person and virtual learning as well as quarantining, the Peoria Unified School District is aiming for a return to normalcy in the upcoming school year.

That is, as close to normal as can be, considering the COVID-19 virus continues to infect people and a variant has found its way to Arizona.

The goal is to get back to as close as normal as possible, said John Gay, chief strategic planning and technology officer, who recently presented mitigation strategies to the school board.
