OPINION — In the lexicon of love and loss, the past year challenged me in ways I never imagined. Fly fishing saved me.
Exploring cascading mountain streams; feeling the warm rays of the sun on my back; and observing streamside wildlife softened the pain of loss, increased my resiliency and taught me that, both in fishing and in life, there is always something beautiful beyond the next bend in the river.
In one year, my father died after a debilitating illness; my long-term romantic relationship ended; I developed prediabetes and a thyroid issue; and had to move away from my home in the mountains.
