9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Salt River Fields: Registration now open

The Salt River Firefighters and Salt River Fields at Talking Stick have proudly partnered with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to host the 6th Annual Memorial Stair Climb presented by Plexus on Sept. 10, to honor and remember the fallen firefighters of 9/11.

The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is not a timed race event, but a way to honor the Fire Department of the City of New York firefighters, police and EMS members who selflessly gave their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, according to a press release.

Each participant pays tribute to an FDNY firefighter, police officer or EMS member by climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center. Each climber will be issued a tag with the name and picture of one of the fallen to carry throughout the climb, symbolically completing their journey to the top of the World Trade Center Towers.

Through firefighter and community participation, we hope to ensure that each of the 343 firefighters, 60 police officers, and 10 EMS personnel are honored and their sacrifice is never forgotten, the press release stated.

The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick presented by Plexus is an official climb of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. All proceeds will benefit the NFFF and the East Valley Firefighters Fund to provide assistance to families of fallen brothers and sisters in the public safety community, according to the press release.

The stair climb event will be held 4-10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Salt River Fields, 7555 N. Pima Road. The climb begins at 7 p.m and ends with an afterparty on the Pepsi Patio at Salt River Fields. Packet pick-up is Friday, Sept. 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. Registration is $30 and includes a commemorative t-shirt designed by State Forty Eight.
