Unused Central Arizona Project water is to be stored underground in Apache Junction in a bidirectional pipe that could also allow treated effluent to be sent to be reused as potable water by the Apache Junction Water Utilities Community Facilities District.
About 1 mile of pipe costing $770,000 is to run between the Superstition Area Water Plant at 4850 S. Ironwood Drive and the Superstition Mountain Community Facilities District No. 1 sewer plant, 5661 S. Ironwood Drive.
The cost is for the pipe only. The cost of installation will be in the next fiscal year, District Director Michael Loggins said at the water district board’s April 18 meeting.
