7 Glendale students among National Merit semifinalists
Winners will be announced next spring
Seven high school students from Glendale are among the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalists.
Officials from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation on Tuesday announced the names of more than 16,000 semifinalists in the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring.

From Mountain Ridge High School, 22800 N. 67th Ave.: Jackson Aoyama, Amisha Chokshi and Priya List.
From Ironwood High School, 6051 W. Sweetwater Ave.: Chelston Juntilla
From Gary K. Herberger Young Scholars Academy, 4701 W. Thunderbird Road (on the ASU West campus): Aliyapadi Hariadi, Leann Landkof and Kunal Sharma
Winners will be announced in April.
To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level. About 95% of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and approximately half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation, a nonprofit that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
