Neither Cactus or Higley played 5A football last season, and both entered the conference this year as contenders, but also curiosities.
The teams with close ties among current and former coaches were able to answer enough of their early season questions to make the conference final Friday night. And the similarities don’t end there.
Cactus and Higley are overflowing with talent in the skill positions and defensive secondary. Both teams had to improve their offensive lines to get to this point, and to a lesser extent develop their front seven on defense.
