A 53-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison following his conviction for first-degree murder, first-degree burglary and gang motivating sentencing enhancement, the Maricopa County Attorney’s office announced Tuesday in a release.

Keith McCollough was convicted for the December 2021 killing of Richard “Ricky” Coss, according to the press release.

McCollough, a documented member of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, joined armed associates in forcibly entering an apartment near 23rd Avenue and West Rose Garden Lane after a confrontation earlier that evening, according to the release.

The group, masked and armed, confronted the people inside. During the encounter, Coss was fatally shot through the heart. DNA and physical evidence linked McCollough to the scene, and witness testimony confirmed the attack was carried out in retaliation under the banner of the Hells Angels.

“The Hells Angels want to rule through fear,” Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said in the release. “In Maricopa County, we do not bow to intimidation or outlaw motorcycle gangs. This sentence sends a clear message that organized criminal violence will be met with organized justice.”

Two co-defendants in the case previously pleaded guilty, the release said. Jimmy Lee Eslinger, 33, is serving 16 years in prison, and Carl Blazak, 46, is serving 10.5 years in prison for their roles in the murder.
