$30K in grants received by StandUp AJ drug-prevention coalition

[Coalition Director Shelly Verley said Nov. 29 that she mispoke at the meeting about the total amount of funds coming from the state opioid response grant and that it should be $18,000. That change is reflected in the story.]

Applications were submitted for grants to be renewed and $30,000 has been received for efforts to reduce substance abuse, volunteers with StandUp AJ, Apache Junction’s drug-prevention coalition, were told at a recent meeting.

StandUp AJ was formed in 2020 and replaced a drug-prevention coalition that started serving Apache Junction in 2008 that eventually dissolved. Volunteers include Apache Junction community members, law-enforcement officials, educators and National Guard Counter Drug Task Force representatives.
