Mesa’s annual water donation campaign has a goal of 400,000 bottles that will be used to help people in need during the region’s extreme summer heat.
“(A)s we’re hitting these triple-digit summers, the heat’s not going to go away until at least late October and so it’s important to stay hydrated. But it’s also important to ensure we are donating water as part of this drive so that we can provide water to those that really need it — our most vulnerable in our community,” Mesa Councilman Kevin Thompson, a member of the United Food Bank Board, said at a June 2 kickoff event for the campaign.
The 15th annual campaign began June 1 and extends to Oct. 1. One of the first donations to the campaign was 18 pallets of water by Walmart.
