The Sun Cities area has so many new residents, I would like to (re)introduce Sun Cities 4 Paws Rescue.
This rescue/shelter has been a staple in this community since the late 1990s. 4 Paws is a cat specific shelter/rescue, but reaches out to the community by contributing animal (cat and sometimes dog) food to people having hard times, local feral feeders and “barn programs.” 4 Paws has taken in the area cats when local businesses, law enforcement, vet offices, utility companies and concerned residents have brought in abandoned cats/kittens to our shelter. We have taken in more than 750 cats/kittens in 2022 alone and adopted out more than 700.
Due to the overload of animals at all shelters, Sun Cities 4 Paws offers various resources to help you keep your pet or help if the cat/kitten needs to be surrendered. There are usually several reasons why people surrender their pet — moving, having to relocate to assisted living, or someone has died and the family or friends needs assistance with their pet.
4 Paws offers a “surrender to foster program.” It allows the cat to stay home until they are ready for adoption. This process usually takes 3-4 weeks to complete vet visits, vaccine, microchips and other needs it may have — thus reducing time in the shelter and the stress on the cats. 4 Paws also offers this program to people finding kittens and depending on the age of the kitten is how long they are fostered until ready for adoption.
Call 623-773-2246.
We also offer a “Loving Legacy” program to advance plan for your cat if something were to happen to you. Sun Cities 4 Paws Rescue also has foster programs for kittens, special needs and senior cats, so all have a chance for a home.
4 Paws is totally donation funded, along with grants and bequests. The Thrift Store in Youngtown also financially supports our shelter and the needs of the cats/kittens. So, come and see what is in our store and support us! Sun Cities 4 Paws has functions all during the year, such as our fashion show, kitten shower, golf tournament and casino night. Our website, 4pawsrescue.org, is a source of information and has a calendar of events. While browsing, why not check out our volunteer section and see all the various ways you can help.
