4 indicted in fraud scheme related to Higley School District

A report from the Arizona Auditor General confirms the misuse of money by the Higley Unified School District (HUSD), which primarily serves Gilbert and parts of Queen Creek.

According to Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich in a press release, four people have been indicted in a fraud scheme related to the district. The auditors conducted a financial investigation of certain Higley Unified School District transactions for the period of May 2012 through April 2016.

A grand jury has indicted Denise Birdwell, Gary Aller, Steven Nielsen and Kay Hartwell Hunnicut for their alleged role in the procurement for construction of the Elona Ranch and Sossaman middle schools in HUSD.
