337-acre sports complex proposed at Ellsworth and Williams Field roads

A sprawling sports and recreation complex with 41 pickleball courts, 24 soccer fields, 12 sand volleyball courts and eight baseball fields is to be constructed southeast of South Ellsworth Road and East Williams Field Road. The 337-acre development is in unincorporated Maricopa County near Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport and the owner is seeking that the property be annexed into the city of Mesa.

A rezoning from agricultural to leisure and recreation for 41.7 acres on the southeast corner of the property, a special-use permit and site plan review were approved in a unanimous vote of a consent agenda with other items March 10 by the Mesa Planning and Zoning Board with Chairman Dane Astle absent.
