Recycling Apache Junction’s 40,000-ton asphalt pavement pile to use in other projects will cost up to $300,000.
The pavement, stored in a mountain at the city’s public works yard, 575 E. Baseline Ave., comes from five years of projects including waste asphalt from road work last spring on San Marcos Drive, said Shane Kiesow, public works manager for the city of Apache Junction.
The City Council on July 6 approved a service contract of up to $308,096 with Viasun Corp. for asphalt crushing and screening, with Councilors Kelly Gremmel and Robert Schroeder voting by phone.
