Three separate incidents led Phoenix Police to discontinue the use of stun bags, which ended abruptly last year, according to the department.
The decision was the result of tests that showed the stun bags were moving at faster velocities than the manufacturer claimed after three incidences of their use ended up sending suspects to the hospital, according to Donna Rossi, a police spokeswoman.
In late November, Phoenix Police announced it would permanently discontinue the use of stun bag shotguns after suspending the munitions program in mid-October.
