A 49-year-old man died Wednesday in a collision that also took the life of a 19-year-old woman, police said.

Detectives have identified Roberto Pedro as the driver of a car that collided with an SUV.

A 19-year-old woman, Jade Pedro, also died following the Monday night crash at 40th Street and Loop 202, Phoenix police said.

Preliminary information suggests an SUV ran a red light while heading east on the 202 Freeway access road and collided with a car that was heading north on 40th Street, police said, adding impairment appears to be a factor for the SUV driver.

Four people, including three from the car, were taken to a hospital.

Jade Pedro, a passenger in the car, died from her injuries at the hospital, police said.  Roberto Pedro died later after being taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The third occupant of the passenger car and the driver of the SUV were treated and released.

“The collision remains under investigation as detectives continue to process the evidence,” Phoenix police said in a release. “A charging decision will not be made until the investigation is complete.”
