2.2M square feet industrial buildings planned in Mesa

An Unbound Gateway development with 2.2 million square feet of industrial buildings is to be constructed on 155 acres north of Pecos Road and east of Sossaman Road in Mesa.

The Mesa Planning and Zoning Board recently voted unanimously in a consent agenda with other items to recommend the city council approve a site plan review and rezoning of the property from agriculture to general industrial with a planned area development overlay. Absent from the meeting were board members Shelly Allen and Jeffrey Crockett.

It is the second iteration of the development seen by the board. Late last year it was proposed to be 2.5 million square feet of industrial buildings. At that time, Union Pacific Railroad Co. couldn’t support the site plan and rezoning as it didn’t include right of way for the Pecos Industrial Rail Access and Train Extension project, or PIRATE, wrote Adrian Guerro, general director of public affairs, in an Oct. 6 letter to the planning and zoning board.
