A 284-acre mixed-use development is coming to Laveen that will add an auto mall, a hospital, a 50-acre resort, retail, restaurants and up to 2,200 residential units.
A planning and general plan change to allow for the project came with an 8-0 vote on each at Phoenix City Council last week. There was considerable opposition in the Laveen community to the developers’ original proposal, but after nearly two years, a compromise was struck that almost all supported.
The development also will include the first trailhead from Laveen into the South Mountain Park & Preserve, which is southeast of the property, and the developer is working with the city to add a fire station.
