The spotlight was away from Liberty football this summer and the Lions do not mind.
After all, it was the work put in by the kids in this program during the first three years of the decade that set the foundation for the 2023 and 2024 Open Division title teams and forced all of Arizona to take notice.
“If you go back to 2021 or 2022, we were looking to get over that hump, and that provided a certain energy,” Liberty Coach Colin Thomas said. “For these guys, a lot of them have their first opportunity to get a chance to contribute at a high level. It wasn’t much fun to not finish the job last year.”
