2025 WM Phoenix Open goes smoother than last year

Racist rant by spectator goes viral on social media

Unlike last year’s drunken debacle, the 2025 edition of the WM Phoenix Open made the national news for the right reasons - the golf.

In 2024 a woman was taken to the hospital after falling from the grandstand at the 16th hole, spectators argued with the golfers and made mud pits in the rain soaked grounds to slide in as well as making “sand angels” in the bunkers. Things got so bad the tournament operators had to shut the gates and close down alcohol sales on the Saturday of the event.

But while the number of police-involved incidents increased this year over last, the extra-athletic activity was, for the most part, a side story.
