During a punishing playoff run to the first football title in school history, Sunrise Mountain played against type.
Known for their quarterbacks in previous years, the Mustangs ran the ball 142 times and threw 13 in three dominant playoff wins. In part, a knee injury to junior quarterback Hunter Kronengold in the regular season finale forced this shift in philosophy and his return this year brings balance back.
However, Steve Decker’s team does not want to lose the mentality that produced three playoff victories of 21 points or more — a mentality rooted on the Mustangs’ unprecedented dominance on both sides of the line.
