MCSO identifies couple in murder-suicide at Sun City West facility
Posted
Sheriff's officials said a 90-year-old woman told her husband she was in pain and wanted to die the night before he shot and killed them both at a facility in Sun City West.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office identified Mickie Artikuski, 89, and Genevieve Jeanne Artikuski, 90, of Surprise, as the couple found dead Thursday morning at Sun West Choice Healthcare & Rehab near Meeker Boulevard and Camino del Sol.
MCSO said deputies had responded to a shooting call at the facility around 7:15 a.m. Thursday.
Upon arrival, deputies located two deceased individuals. MCSO’s Homicide detectives were called out and assumed the investigation.
"Through investigation, Homicide detectives learned that the night prior to the incident, Genevieve was complaining to Mickie that she was in severe pain and wanted to die,” MCSO stated Saturday morning.” On the day of the incident, Mickie returned to the healthcare/rehab facility and shot his wife and then shot himself.”
