A 53-year-old man has been arrested for attempting to steal a tray of “high-dollar" jewelry from a Scottsdale store, police said.

The suspect, Troy A. Bell, was stopped by two men at about 11:40 a.m. Sept. 1 as he was leaving Marina Jewelers, near 5th Avenue and Scottsdale Road.

“On his way out the door, he encountered two brave men who were entering the jewelers and tried to stop him,” police said Saturday in a release.

“The three reportedly got into a fight which ultimately resulted in Bell being detained by the two men, and some other helpers.”

Police arrived and arrested him a short time later. Police said they believe the jewelry has been recovered.

Bell was booked and held in custody for charges that include shoplifting, assault and failure to provide a truthful name.

He was sent Friday night for booking at the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office jail in Phoenix.
