2 ‘Green Living’ classes available in Glendale this month

Registration open for gray water, compost sessions

The city ’s Green Living classes, sponsored by the Glendale Water Services Department, Conservation and Sustainable Living Division, will take place this month.

The series is designed to help residents learn to conserve water and live sustainably. The city in June declared a Stage 1 Drought Watch, which will target a 5% water-reduction goal at municipal properties. Glendale is also encouraging residents and businesses to voluntarily conserve water.

Irrigating with Gray Water. Gray water can be a reliable source of water for desert landscapes. Clint Culberson and Michael Gettens with Galaxy Gardens will share how they plan and install simple gray water systems. Discover how to send gray water from laundry machines, handwashing sinks, baths and showers to your landscape.

6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21

Virtual class on Zoom

The Dirt on Compost. Compost is the “black gold” essential to successful vegetable gardening, especially in the Southwest. Discover how easy it is to produce your own magical soil amendment. Kirti Mathura, garden author, has more than 17 years of experience working at the Desert Botanical Garden and is currently the Program Coordinator for Smartscape at the University of Arizona’s Cooperative Extension.
