2 Apache Junction city court positions proposed

Discussed with council in closed-door session, judge says

Changing the city code to allow for the hiring of a part-time associate magistrate and judicial assistant for the city court is to be discussed at the Apache Junction City Council’s Sept. 21 meeting. It begins at 7 p.m. in the council chambers, 300 E. Superstition Blvd.

Presiding Magistrate Aaron Doug LaSota is seeking an ordinance change and the appointment of the two court employees, he said at the council’s Sept. 7 meeting.

“This will come back in two weeks and that will be a public hearing because it’s an ordinance changing the city code and then we’d ask for approval at that time,” City Attorney Joel Stern said to the council. “Also, the appointments — provided that Judge LaSota will recommend to you certain people — that will also come back before council at another time because ... you would need to appoint the part-time associate magistrate as well as the judicial assistant.”
