A Maricopa County grand jury has indicted a 30-year-old man in connection with a stabbing death that occurred last month at a birthday party in Laveen, authorities said Wednesday.

Hunter Strawbridge is being detained on a $1 million cash-only bond for the murder of Jake Carbonell, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. The attack occurred at a home where Carbonell was hosting a child's birthday party.

During the party, police said, Carbonell “was alerted that defendant Strawbridge had threatened a female relative with a knife,” an MCAO release stated.

“Strawbridge continued his threatening behavior and was asked to leave the party. Once outside the house, a fight ensued, and Strawbridge stabbed Carbonell in the neck.”

Two people who attempted to intervene in the fight were also stabbed and sustained serious but non-fatal injuries. Carbonell was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Strawbridge has been indicted on charges of second-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and tampering with physical evidence.

His trial is scheduled for June.
